Can't Filipinos Understand English?

This is the question that kept lingering on my mind since I noticed that almost all English spoken shows are now being dubbed in Tagalog or lets say FIlipino. TV 5 had made an unprecedented choice to do this even on shows like Sponge Bob and others. I asked myself, can't we understand English and that is why these shows need to be translated in Filipino?

Spongebob Square Pants Tagalog Version on TV 5

Way back when I was in Elementary and High School English shows are supposed to be English. To tell yopu frankly that helped me a lot in improving my English Communication Skills and if you look at the statistics children and youth back then are better English speakers because of this condition. Since the Tagalizing of anime and Mexicanovelas began we can see the trend of a deteriorating English communication skill. Be honest, how many college students out there who did not come from high-end schools can actually speak good and correct English?

Back then, you did not need to study in schools like that because you can easily acquire the needed skills even when you are only watching your favorite anime or cartoon or tv show. Yesterday, I have read a study about the search for the most effective tool in teaching English Communication Skills and did you know what came out as the best? That is... READING ALOUD. The study further says that communication skills is further enhanced when students hear the new language because their mind instantly processes it. Therefore, there is indeed a correlation of what our very intelligent media did to the shows we now see on TV.

I hope that for the sake of our future, we let the characters in the show speak their language. We will then both enjoy and learn better.

what's wrong if it is in tagalog? Let's support our own language.

I love our own language but there are things na hindi naman dapat iTagalize.

mali ba?
