Unli rice good or bad?


Marami ang biglang nag react ng ipanukala ni Senator Cynthia Villa na dapat ng tigilan ang pagbibigay ng "unlirice" ng mga restaurant.  Among the restaurants that are commonly offering unlirice options are Mang Inasal and Tokyo Tokyo.  Anu nga ba ang rason ni Sen. Villar at bakit dapat natin itong suportahan? Is unli rice good or bad?

What did Senator Villar said?


"Ipagbawal na 'yang unlimited rice; masama 'yan. Ipagbawal na natin 'yang unlimited rice kasi nagkakasakit tayo gawa ng unlimited rice na yan. We should learn how to eat vegetables.”
(Unlimited rice should be banned; it's bad. We should ban unlimited rice because we are getting sick because of that. We should learn how to eat vegetables.)
The senator how ever clarified that she is not filing any bill which seeks to ban unlimited rice rather she is just airing concerns over the risks of unlimited rice.  She also said that Filipinos should learn to consume less rice since there are findings that too much of this is also a main cause of diabetes.  Villar also added that unlimited rice is indeed a bad diet in general.

Why should unlimited rice be banned?


Bakit nga ba kailangang itigil na ang unlimited rice?  Totoo na nakakatipid sa pagkain at mas mabubusog ka pag may unli rice subalit nakakagawa rin ito ng artificial na craving to consume more rice kahit busog ka na.  Sabi nga ng iba hindi sulit kapag isang rice lang ang nakain mo so the more rice the better.

The truth is RICE IS HEALTHY but it depends on which rice you are consuming.  According to a report from CNN white rice is inferior among all other rice because it is a "refined grain" and most of its natural nutrients are already removed.  Some of those removed include Vitamin B, Iron and Fiber.

Let us also remember that rice is a high source of carbohydrates and calrories.  Kaya nga mga kababayan habang parami ng parami ang kinakain mong kanin ay pabigat ng pabigat din ang iyong timbang.



Brown Rice should be unli


If gusto magpatuloy ng unli rice bakit hindi na lang gawin itong brown rice?  Sinasabi na ang brown rice ay mabisang source ng antioxidants, vitamin E and fiber.  Sa totoo lang ang isang cup ng medium-grain brown rice ay mayroong 3.5 grams of fiber kumpara sa white rice na mayroong less than 1 lamang.

It is also found out na ang brown rice ay mayroong subaleurone layer, which is present in brown rice but not in white rice, may provide protection against high blood pressure and atherosclerosis.  Based on the same study it also confirms that substituting brown rice for white rice may the lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.
